"Agnès ou le temps français" est l’histoire d’un voyage sans incident. Rien de plus facile pour lui que d’imaginer qu’il était en route. De passage, ou mieux : parti en vacances (en réalité, cela l’aurait inquiété comme l’attrait d’un nouveau produit).
Gerz' approach of placing the linguistic before the figural offers above all an interior path that each person must explore in his own way. He imposes nothing, but moves forward masked, in doubt. In the hotel room of Agnès ou le temps français, where all the objects give off a Proustian scent of reminiscence and "déjà vu", he puts the question of the "retour du même" - eternally coming back to the fundamental question of man confronted by his destiny, of the artist confronted by the sovereign urgency of expressing the inexpressible.
