His own texts are crucial here, as types of poetic but also ironic monologues, definitions and paraphrases of “my art”. But the viewer is most directly addressed by a dominating inscription with a powerful pictorial and colour effect – YOUR ART IS, with which Gerz declaratively hands his work over to the person looking at it – for their own interpretation.
