Von Zeit zu Zeit sah er her. Erkannte er sie nach all den Jahren? War er alleine da? Wie alt konnte er sein inzwischen? Er war es, sie hatte ihn erkannt.

Vivid mental images of an event are limitless in their spatial and temporal dimension because they are tools of the mind for everything that preceded and succeeded them. The picture of bygone events resembles memory like a souvenir rather than in its function as part of purposeful thinking in daily life.

Lebendige Gedächtnisbilder eines Ereignisses sind schrankenlos in ihrer räumlichen und zeitlichen Ausdehnung, weil sie "Instrumente" sind des Geistes zu allem, was vor ihnen, und zu allem, was nach ihnen kam. Das Foto vergangenen Geschehens gleicht eher dem Erinnern in der Form des Andenkens (Souvenirs) als seiner Funktion im zweckverhafteten Denken des Alltags.
